CONVERSION of MaxSea ROUTES AND TRACKS TO .gpx FORMAT using the  GPSUtility Program 

 

NOTE:  This was written with an early version of OpenCPN.  The import and export of waypoints and tracks is now done with the Route Manager. 

 

ROUTES      (for TRACKS go here)

 

In the GPSUtility program select ‘Open

 

 

Navigate to the location of MaxSea Routes

 

 

Select the folder containing the route to be converted.

 

 

The program previously had a .gpx file displayed.  Change this using the Files of type: elevator.

 

 

Select ‘All files (*.*)

 

 

The MaxSea route is shown as a .wpt file

 

 

Open this file

 

 

Select OK.

 

 

The route will be displayed with each waypoint.  Select File/Save/Export Options.

 

 

Select the Format elevator.

 

 

 

Select the Format of ‘GPX Interchange file’

 

 

Uncheck the box 'Waypoints'    (correction on 9 Aug 11)

 

Select the button ‘Export As.’

 

 

 

 

Choose the location to save the route in .gpx format.  Click ‘Save’

 

 

 

Launch the OpenCPN program.

 

 

If the ‘GPX IN’ and ‘GPX OUT’ buttons are not displayed, go to Settings/ToolBox/Etc. and check the box ‘Show GPX icons

 

 

Navigate to the saved .gpx route file and open it.

 

 

 

 

The route is displayed on the chart.

 

 

 

To delete the route, right-click anywhere along the route and select ‘Delete Route’

 

 

 

TRACKS   (for ROUTES go here)

 

In the GPSUtility program select ‘Open

 

 

 

Navigate to the location of MaxSea Tracks

 

 

 

Open the Tracks folder

 

 

 

Select the folder containing the track to be converted.

 

 

 

The program previously had a .gpx file displayed.  Change this using the Files of type: elevator.

 

 

Select ‘All files (*.*)

 

 

 

The MaxSea tracks are shown as .ptf files.  Select the one you want to convert.

 

 

 

Selcect ‘Open

 

 

 

The track Is displayed as a series of waypoints.

 

 

Select File/Save/Export Options …

 

 

 

Select the Format elevator

 

 

 

Select ‘GPX Interchange file’

 

 

 

Select the button ‘Export As.’

 

 

Choose the location to save the route in .gpx format.  Click ‘Save’

 

 

 

Launch the OpenCPN program.

Navigate to the saved .gpx track file and open it.

 

 

 

The saved track is displayed on the chart.  Unfortunately the track is a very heavy line at this zoom level.

 

 

 

When zoomed in the track becomes more visible.

 

 

As with routes, to delete the track right-click on it and select Delete track.
